Here’s a before and after shot (minus the new floor).

Here are some more from the process..

Lakehouse 2010

These pics pretty much sum it up! Absolutely awesome time with the Griswold crew (but we did miss Mike, Heather and Grace).

Katie’s folks have rented this lakehouse a few times now — The first time was the week of our wedding in 2008! So basically, we feel like it’s our lakehouse at this point.

Quote of the Day

Waking up in the hospital is the worst. My sweet wife stayed here all night though! So when I woke up…

Evan: “You’re the cutest thing I’ve seen this morning!”
Katie, with a (loving) glare: “You’ve seen a nurse and a urinal so far today.”

Kitchen and Nook – Done!

We are finally done with the kitchen and breakfast nook! A few weeks ago when Mom and Pop Mich were in town, we built these killer benches, sewed up some “custom” pillows, hung two fixtures, painted a wall, and more…

But we’ve been waiting for the bench cushions (technically they’re mattresses) to be delivered – And now we’re done!

Argentina

I’ve been meaning to post these pictures for a while.

My bro, Cory, was down in Argentina for a while working with a fly fishing company called Nervous Waters. Word on the street is that they want him back this year too. Sounds like he may be headed back around December.

Of course, I don’t know a thing about fly fishing, but apparently Cory is kind of the man down there! He essentially was/is a (bilingual) guide – Clients pay for about a week’s worth of fishing. They have a killer lodge with killer food. Cor drives them out to the day’s spot, forges across a 5ft high river and owns some monster fish.

I was amazed at the terrain. Such a beautiful, open space.

Famous Michners!

Two stories just hit the wire today!

Here’s a great article on my bro getting inducted into the 2009 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society.

And here’s one about Chef Robert Irvine…but who’s helping him out in that picture?? Mama Mich!

Porcupine for Dinner?

Katie always comes home with hysterical touching stories about the kids at her school. This is a conversation she had with a first grader yesterday…

Katie: “How are a cactus and a porcupine the same?”
First Grader: “They’re both pokey.”
Katie: “How are a cactus and a porcupine different?”
First Grader: “A cactus is a plant and lives in the desert. A porcupine is for eating and lives at HEB.”
Katie: After a pause… “Do you think maybe you’re talking about pinneapple?”

“Cobbler Mad”

Just wanted to update you all on a new vocab word currently being used around the Michner household: “Cobbler Mad.”

Cobbler Mad: A relative term, used in relation to one’s level of anger and/or frustration.

This descriptor was introduced into the English language around February, 2008 when Katie Michner’s apple cobbler failed to rise in the oven. She became quite angry, though oddly enough, smiled and laughed throughout the entire experience–all the while, shouting: “I am so mad!” I found the entire scene a bit comical, so I started laughing at with her to see if she was actually mad or not.

See, Katie says there are levels of mad. You can only get so mad at a cobbler–hence the term, “cobbler mad”: Mad, but not really because the source of your frustration is pretty ridiculous.

Fiesta Bowl Win!

Final score: Longhorns 24, OSU 21. Hook ‘em!

Can you believe Cory played four seasons of Longhorns football, each one ending with a bowl game win? It started in January 2006 with a win against USC, and ended in January 2009 with a win against OSU. What a wild ride these last few years have been.

We had an absolute blast in Glendale, Arizona last weekend. Fun times with the Michner clan!

Short story: After the trophy was given out, I had a hard time finding Cory on the field. He wasn’t with all the other players. Then I realized: He was up on stage holding the Fiesta Bowl trophy! He deserved it. There’s a picture of it below–check it out!

Enjoy the pics!

Some News from the Longhorns…

I’m sure Cory is going to hate this…but check out the article about him on the Texas site!

Couldn’t be more proud of my “little” bro.

We’re only one week away from kick off! In the meantime, here are a few pics we took at the ultra-top-secret scrimmage the other day.
